Young volunteer urges Carrick people to consider Childline role

Jessica Logan, a psychology student at Queen’s University Belfast, gave Rotarians an insight into her work as a volunteer with Childline which provides a free and confidential 24-hour counselling service financed by NSPCC for children and young people up 19 years of age.

Jessica gave examples of the nature of the calls to the helpline and outlined the types of support offered by telephone and online and the confidentiality regulations governing the operation.

She described the high demand for Childline’s counselling service and how the volume of calls which require one-to-one counselling currently exceeds their capacity to respond to all of them without the recruitment and training of further volunteers.

Jessica urged interested individuals to go online at childline.org.uk and register as a volunteer.

Rotarian Colin McCarthy commended Jessica on her service to others in the community through her work with Childline.
