Two hospitalised after Carrick collision

Two people were transported to hospital following a road traffic collision in the Belfast Road area of Carrickfergus yesterday (Tuesday).

The two-vehicle collision was reported to police at 2.45pm.

In a statement issued to this newspaper, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Officers attended, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS).

“A driver and passenger from one of the vehicles were transported to hospital by NIAS, where they are receiving treatment to injuries.”

Independent Councillor Bobby Hadden drove past the incident while emergency services were at the scene.

Speaking to the Times, the Knockagh DEA representative said: “One car was in the ditch and the other was facing the wrong way.

“Driving conditions were horrendous due to the weather.

“I would urge motorists to drive with care and respect the conditions.

“My thoughts are with the people who were injured.”

Earlier this month the Carrick Times reported that businesses have been assured access to their premises will not be restricted with road works at Prince Andrew Way.
