Women’s Aid ABCLN and the PSNI have launched a campaign to prevent the rise of domestic abuse during the European Championships.
During sporting events, the organisations say they often see an increase in incidents of domestic abuse, with levels doubling in some areas of the UK during the 2014 World Cup.
The groups wish to issue a strong warning to possible offenders that domestic abuse will be dealt with robustly by the PSNI.
As part of an ongoing campaign to tackle domestic abuse, the PSNI developed a poster and social media campaign which was launched on June 8.
The key message, ‘If you feel like you’re walking on eggshells that’s domestic abuse,’ is designed to encourage the reporting of incidents and make victims aware that they can take steps to stop it. Victims are urged to “speak out to stop it.”
