A Carrickfergus teacher caught the attention of pupils by addressing assembly while seated on his toilet.

Mr Bennett, who teaches RE at Carrickfergus College, brought the toilet to school to highlight the ‘Spend a Penny’ campaign by the Stand By Me charity.

In his ‘World Toilet Day’ talk he was aiming to get across topupils the importance of this household appliance.

Stand By Me works to rescue children in crisis. It supports children and families with health programmes, including the provision of clean water.

A statement from the school explained: “Here in the UK, we don’t often think about the benefits of a toilet in our homes. But for many children in Stand by Me’s care around the world, a toilet is considered a luxury.”
Mr Bennett’s toilet is now sitting in his classroom and pupils are giving all their coppers to the cause.
