Two Belfast Lough Sailability volunteers are to be recognised at national level during the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) awards later this month.

Christine Harper, a stalwart of the Carrick-based sailing charity, will be given the Outstanding Contribution award, while Cameron Date has been chosen as Young Volunteer of the Year.

A pupil at Carrickfergus Grammar School, Cameron has been volunteering with Belfast Lough Sailability for two years and has been involved with Carrickfergus Sailing Club since 2009.

The 15-year-old has both sailing and power boat qualifications.

Meanwhile, Christine has been involved with Sailability since its inception in 2001.

A native of Carrick, she has had a number of roles within the organisation from fundraising and honorary secretary to volunteer coordinator; she is now part of the PR and media team and is vice chair of the group.

The RYA awards ceremony will take place in London with HRH Princess Anne presenting the accolades.
