CCTV confirmed for new Trooperslane Park and Ride - Beggs

East Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman Roy Beggs raised the matter during a recent virtual Translink ‘meet the manager’ event.

Mr Beggs said: “I welcome the news that work on the new Trooperslane Park and Ride facility is to start in January. I am pleased that Translink confirmed to me during the online meeting that there will be CCTV on site, which will provide a degree of reassurance to users and to local residents.

“I also took the opportunity to press Translink for improved passenger facilities for at Trooperslane Halt as with almost 200 parking spaces, there will be many more passengers using the station.”

Covid pandemic measures and the impact on bus and rail services were also discussed during the session.

The Ulster Unionist representative added: “Translink also indicated that they were keen to improve mask wearing with pupils travelling to school to limit the risks of Covid-19.

“I indicated my support for the educational and encouragement route being taken at present and would urge parents to support Translink, PSNI, schools and youth workers by reminding their children that mask wearing on public transport is now a requirement for post-primary school pupils.”

Bus and rail managers engaged via electronic means with political representatives to discuss passenger transport and other Translink activity.

Richard Anderson, Translink’s Ulsterbus Northern Area manager, said: “We’ve had to do things a little differently in response to the Covid-19 outbreak, but this has nonetheless been a very useful and informative session, helping to provide a cross-party group of local representatives with an update on public transport services across the wider Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey areas and how we’ve dealt with recent challenges, including what we’re doing to help the community recover from the impact of Covid-19 and to promote sustainable transport options as part of a ‘green recovery’.

“We are grateful to local representatives for attending this session and thank them for their ongoing support for public transport as Translink continues to assist efforts to build back responsibly.”
