The race has been organised by running events company We Run Wild NI following their successful inaugural marathon in May.We Run Wild NI was set up by local couple Gary and Gillian Connolly. “The concept of the organisation is to take runners back to self-sufficient running, to return to running for the enjoyment and challenge and to appreciate nature,” Gillian explained.“We aim for trail running courses rather than road. This event on November 3 is unique to NI, as runners self navigate following a detailed road book, [which] gives step by step directions, rather than following signage.” The course starts and finishes at Carrick Castle, with the full marathon from 9am, and the half marathon run and walk at 9.30am. The route takes in a number of historic lanes and trails around Carrickfergus including Cassies Lane, Bluefield Lane and Oakfield Glen, Lough Mourne reservoir, and Woodburn forest.Runners receive a bandana and medal upon completion from Miss Teen Galaxy Co Antrim, Yasmin McClean. The event is now closed for online registration but anyone wishing to enquire about a place can contact [email protected] Run Wild NI can also be found on Facebook and at www.werunwildni.com
