Carrickfergus base pays dividend as Anto Cacace defends British boxing title

The Belfast man, who has made Carrickfergus his home for training, retained his British super feather title displaying the kind of ability that prompts many within boxing circles to argue he has world title capabilities.

Cacace dropped and outboxed the Leicester-based ‘Lion’ to come away with a unanimous points win, his title and his reputation greatly enhanced.

Carrickfergus trainer Iain Mahood from the Evolution Boxing Club. who laid the path for the performance, said: “We always took into account Woodstock’s brave approach would make him him tailor-made for Anto but even at that Cacace was standout. His shot selection, control of distance, general ring IQ and natural ability helped him shine under the added spotlight brought by topping the bill and should ensure he remains a headline act on BT Sports.

“The performance and the platform it played out on more so than the result should open doors for Anto and it will be interesting to see what Frank Warren has planned for him next.”

The power of Cacace has always been noted and it came into play early in the fourth as he floored Woodstock with a crunching left. The Londoner rose but was peppered with stiff jabs as it became clear there was a huge difference in class.

“I genuinely believe you haven’t seen the best of me. In this fight I was just picking shots and hurting him with everything. Just get me more fights and you’ll see me do amazing things,” says Cacace

Cacace entered the ring with a number six ranking with the WBA and will likely rise further in the wake of this victory with a potential eliminator for the big one next. He has previously stated that the move to Carrick and the reception of people wishing him well on his runs along the seafront has left him feeling rejuvenated. Click here to read:
