Man taken to hospital after shooting in Carrickfergus estate

A man in his 50s was shot in the leg in the Castlemara area of Carrickfergus on Friday night.

The male was out walking close to Castlemara Shops around 7.30pm when he was approached by three masked males.

He was subsequently shot in the calf and was taken to hospital for treatment for a single gunshot wound.

It is believed the three attackers made off on foot however their direction of travel is unknown at this time.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the shooting or with any information relating to it to contact them in Larne on the non-emergency number 101.
