A total of 14 new jobs are being created at a new purpose-built nursery in Carrickfergus.

Childcare specialist Important Mini People has officially opened the doors to its Woodburn Road premises.

Originally from the area, Clare Moore and her husband David were attracted back to borough when they discovered the perfect location for their dream nursery.

With the support of an architect they have transformed an abandoned warehouse on Woodburn Road into a colourful, state-of-the-art centre with extensive onsite parking.

The nursery is divided into age specific units and includes many features which are designed to encourage children to develop, including a two-storey play loft and a wooden cottage.

Mrs Moore will be responsible for the overall management of the facility.

Speaking at the official opening, she said: “Every child has their own personality, likes, dislikes and interests and they all develop at their own pace.

“At Important Mini People we want to give them as many new, interesting and stimulating experiences as we can to develop their knowledge, imagination, and personality and to help them grow into confident individuals.

“I have 25 years’ childcare experience including tutoring and assessing NVQ level II & III. I have already set up three day care nurseries and I have an extensive knowledge of all day care requirements.”

Part of the investment was funded by Danske Bank.

Speaking of this support, Mrs Moore said: “We have been banking with Danske Bank for 40 years so when we decided to look for a business loan it was a natural choice for us to approach them. They have provided us with fantastic support and really got behind our vision to help us to achieve our dream nursery.”

Karen Hoey, Business Manager at Danske Bank, commented: “Important Mini People is an exciting addition to the Carrickfergus area, transforming a disused warehouse into a purpose-built childcare facility which will provide employment to many local people.

“I have been very impressed with Clare and David’s initial vision for this new facility and their drive and enthusiasm throughout. Danske Bank has been pleased to have the opportunity to support this major investment.”
