DUP Councillor Cheryl Johnston has welcomed an undertaking by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to clean the beach at Carrick’s shore front.
A litter pick will now be carried out on a weekly basis.
Cllr. Johnston indicated that council is organising a sub- contractor to scrape weeds and debris from the surface and remove from the site.
She said that council also intends to remove vegetation with a “mild chemical to ensure there is no more growth this season”.
In April, Cheryl organised a clean-up at Fisherman’s Quay.
She said: “Our beautiful coast is littered with bags, bottles and rubbish. It is not only unattractive, but extremely dangerous.”
