It will also provide space for parking cars and cycles and landscaping of the location.

Meanwhile, an application to develop a new social housing scheme has been lodged with the borough council for a site to the rear of World of Wonder play centre at Belfast Road.

The site has been earmarked for 48 social apartments.

Recently, a senior Housing Executive official stated that social housing accommodation for over 55s will be provided in smaller units across Northern Ireland in future years.

Both Carrick proposals are currently under consideration.
