Emma is a star student

A former Carrickfergus Grammar pupil has won the Star Student Teacher Prize at a presentation of special awards at Stranmillis University College.

Emma Murray shares the honour with Caron Lee, a past-pupil of Larne Grammar School.

The GTCNI Star Student Teacher Prize is to be used for professional development activities such as travel or further educational experiences.

Caron was also the joint winner of the Maeve Ann Winters Award for Early Childhood Education.

It was especially commissioned by a former principal, Dr Rodgers, in memory of a much loved infant granddaughter.

This trophy is awarded to the graduating student nominated by the principal of the college on the recommendation of the lecturer in charge of Early Years Education.

It was shared by Caron Lee and Emma Shaw, from Dungannon.

Meanwhile, the Kathleen McSherry Prize is awarded to the highest achieving Early ChildhoodStudies student in an academic year as determined by the Degree Classification mark at the June Board of Examiners.

It was won by Amy Henderson, from Larne, who is also a former pupil of Larne Grammar School.

The award ceremony took place last Thursday.
