Two men armed with a gun and “long blade” have robbed a delivery driver in Carrickfergus.

Detectives are appealing for information following the armed robbery on Sunday which took place before 9.40pm and left the diver “badly shaken”.

Police said the delivery driver was approached by two men in the Fergus Court area.

One of the men was believed to be holding a gun which he pointed at the van driver and demanded money, police said.

The PSNI described the first robber as being just under 6ft tall, and was wearing black gloves, a black jacket and a balaclava. The second man was wearing a grey hoody and carrying a long blade.

The man with the gun smashed a back window of the van and took a box with a sum of money in it.

Both men then fled in the direction of the Sunnylands area.

The delivery driver was not physically hurt but has been left badly shaken, police said.

Inspector Martin Ruddy said: “This was a very frightening incident for the delivery driver who was providing a service to the local community and I would appeal to anyone with information to make that available.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on the non-emergency number 101 quoting 1181 of the 19/02/2017 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
