Council hoping to restore play park equipment 'next month'

Repairs to Sunnylands play park in Carrickfergus have been further delayed due to difficulties in obtaining replacement equipment, the local council has said.

Concerns were raised late last year over damage to play equipment at the park, including climbing apparatus and football nets.

Vandalism at the facility in the Sunnylands area resulted in some equipment being put beyond use, said a spokesperson for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

“Due to delays in retrieving replacement parts, the park has not yet been restored to its desired condition," the spokesperson added.

“Council is currently working to source alternative materials and we will do all in our power to ensure these are installed next month.

“We share the disappointment and frustration of residents when such damage is deliberately caused to facilities used by local communities, and we thank members of the public for their patience while we work to resolve this matter.”

Commenting on the issue, one local parent said: "It's been almost a year since this park was reported as in need of repair and nothing has changed."
