Reports indicate petrol bombs and stones were thrown at PSNI vehicles during an illegal dissident republican parade in the city.

The NI Police Federation has described the violence as “attempts to maim or kill officers”.

Mr Dickson said: “It is completely unacceptable to see the PSNI come under attack in this way. Respect for the rule of law must be upheld at all times - violence has no place in our society.

“Laws must apply to everyone and while I recognise the rights of all to mark commemorations, illegal parades involving masked men aimed at glamorising the past can never be tolerated.

“This is the second time in a matter of days the PSNI has been faced with a difficult situation. I want to urge anyone with information to come forward immediately, so those responsible for this attack can also be dealt with by the courts.”
