Standing in the dock of the town’s magistrates’ court, 24-year-old Grant Alcorn, from Elms Park, was charged with possessing a flare at a football match on May 6.

The Danske Bank Premiership match was between Coleraine and Glentoran, the east Belfast club winning 2-1.

A prosecuting lawyer told the court a football banning order would be sought and Alcorn confirmed that he understood the charge.

He was connected to the charge by a police constable and the case was adjourned until June 20.

Releasing him on bail, District Judge Liam McNally told Alcorn: “The football season is effectively over; come back on June 20. Hopefully a direction will have been made at that time.”
