Two sites in the Carrickfergus area have today picked up a Green Flag Award.
Diamond Jubilee Wood and Oakfield Glen/Bashfordsland Wood were just some of the 43 green spaces in Northern Ireland who received the environmental accolade.
It is the first time that the sites have achieved the accreditation, which is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the United Kingdom.
Antrim Castle Gardens and Clotworthy House provided the perfect backdrop for this morning’s awards ceremony, led by environmental charity Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, in association with Heyn Waste Solutions.
For the 2015/16 season, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful saw a continued increase in public parks, country parks, cemeteries and green spaces meeting the demanding standards.
The awards are judged every year by green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.
