Carrickfergus Castle guided tour for local historians
Carrickfergus and District Historical Society members will learn more about a very familiar location later this month.
Their first summer visit for 2019 will take them to Carrickfergus Castle on Wednesday, May 29.
Dr Tom McNeill, Queen’s University archaeologist, will give a guided tour of the castle highlighting the various developments over its long history, focussing on the choice of site, the inner ward and the great tower construction, the middle curtain and the dating of the gatehouse. The current conservation work on the roof of the great keep will also feature. Anyone wishing to attend should meet at the car park opposite the library at 7.15pm on May 29.
