Carrick volunteers awarded for their commitment to local charities

Three Carrick volunteers were among a group of 14 young people who have received their Millennium Volunteer Ultimate Awards at an event held in Belfast Castle.

Chris Campbell and Ryan Spence volunteer at the Action Cancer charity shop and Eoin Bannon is a volunteer with Belfast Lough Sailability.

The awards recognise the volunteering commitment given by young people, of their own time, skills and enthusiasm to help individuals or organisation in their community.

“For many young people this takes the form of personal and skills development which enhances opportunities for further education, career development and personal satisfaction.

“For many employers and education providers it is the young person’s ability to prove sustained commitment, dedication and a willingness to give of their own time and energy without financial gain which is the attraction.

“We hear story after story of those who have attained their dream job or university place as a result of their volunteering experience.”
