Carrick murder: Pair arrested over George Gilmore shooting

Detectives investigating the murder of George Gilmore in Carrickfergus have arrested two men in the Greater Belfast area.

The prominent loyalist was shot in the neck as he sat in his car on Pinewood Avenue around 2.15pm on Monday. He died in hospital the following day.

The attack has been linked to an ongoing loyalist feud in the town.

Two men, aged 35 and 28, were arrested today and have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite where they are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Darren McCartney said: “We are aware that a number of people were in the area at the time of the shooting and would appeal to anyone who witnessed the attack to contact detectives in the incident room on 02890 259542, phone police on 101 quoting serial 605 15/03 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.
