A team from Carrickfergus Grammar School has been placed third in the annual Northern Ireland Stock Market Challenge run by Global Investor.

The competition uses a trading floor simulation and involves 20 to 30 schools in each region of the United Kingdom.

Recording a profit of £10,700 - a 53.5% return on the initial investment – the North Road students benefitted from “effective teamwork and communication” having to analyse data from various sources and make a decision ahead of the other teams.

As part of the competition, the Carrickfergus Grammar group members, Sam Hanley, Mark Weir, Junior McMurran, Matthew Simms, and Gareth Baird, completed written reports on their approach to ethical investing and strategies in general.
