Young people in Carrickfergus have received an insight to the burgeoning games industry in Northern Ireland.

Matt Johnston, from Digital Circle, was at Carrickfergus College to talk to year 11 pupils about job prospects in the media field,

He told the class how there are over 40 companies in Northern Ireland working and creating games every day.

Matt gave a presentation on his career path trying to motivate and inspire the students to learn new skills and find roles in the IT industry as jobs are available and the salary is above average.

A graduate in genetic engineering, Matt, thought that he wanted to focus on that area but this soon changed when he discovered IT.

Matt told the class that “media is a growing industry in Northern Ireland”.

The students were also shown new technology such as the ‘Oculus Rift’. They all got a chance to experience the glasses that, once on, you feel like you are in that computer-generated place. For example, Matt put on a demonstration game which made participants feel they were on a rollercoaster.

Since starting the business Matt has had more chances to do new things, for example, he has now taken the opportunity to start an enterprise making electric cars.
