Unemployment in Carrick continues to fall, according to latest figures from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.

The borough’s jobless tally now stands at 957, a drop of 29 on the previous month. Of these, 662 are male and 295 are female. This represents a change of 215 over the year.

East Antrim MLA Alastair Ross said: “Anyone talking to local businesses will get the strong sense that the economy is getting stronger and that optimism is returning. There has been significant investment and job announcements in recent months, and Invest NI should be congratulated for their efforts over the past year securing over £1 billion of investment and promoting 11,000 jobs.

“Today’s figures for the period between February and April 2014 again show some improvement with 500 fewer claimants in receipt of unemployment related benefits, a fall of 8400 over the past year.”
