Alan's memorial walk raises funds for Poppy Appeal

Funds were raised for the RBL Poppy Appeal during a walk in memory of the late Alan Hamilton senior.

The local man was chairperson of Carrickfergus Royal British Legion from 2006 until his death in 2016.

The event on November 19 was organised by Alan's daughter, Elaine Hamilton, and Karen McMeekan from 1 in 3 Cancer Support Group.

Participants went from Loughshore Park, Jordanstown to the Carrickfergus Big Lamp, where Edward McKnight recited ‘The Ode to the Fallen’ and held a moment's silence.

The new chairman of Carrickfergus RBL, Joe Carmichael then paid a short tribute to Alan.

Poppy Appeal organiser in the borough for a number of years, it was ever Alan's aim for the Carrick branch to beat the previous year's total.

This walk in his memory will now be an annual event.
