£3.2k to help poorest and needy following Carrick fundraising

The work of an international aid charity has been boosted by fundraising work in Carrickfergus.

Concern Worldwide Carrickfergus Support Group is thanking the people of the borough and beyond who raised £1,621.09p towards the organisation’s vital work with the poorest and most needy throughout the world.

And with the UK Government having promised to double all money raised for Concern before December 14 2014, this will make the total an amazing £3,242.18p, explained Roberta Cooney, of the Carrick group.

She added: “The money was raised by collection’s over two days in Sainsbury grocery store (20/21 November 2014) , a collection outside Eurospar grocery store, a donation from Downshire School, personal donations and selling quiz sheets. Many, many thanks to everyone who took part or donated.”

The winners of the quiz were as follows: First prize – S Jardine £30 voucher for Ownies Bistro, Carrickfergus (special thanks to Jack Creighton for donating the prize); second prize - C McCartney £20.

Roberta also provided answers to the two questions most people had difficulty with: Q.‘May we?’A. Lettuce; Q. ‘Flowing in a hot live wire?’ A. Red currant.
