Stray dog menace in Greenisland

A number of housing estates in Greenisland were being plagued by stray dogs in September 1979.

Some residents from Greenisland were concerned by the number of stray dogs which were running wild in the area.

Sunnylands and Woodlands in Carrickfergus were also affected by the issue at the time.

Councillor Charles Johnson wanted the owners of the dogs to be dealt with by the law.

“If the licence was increased it would encourage owners to look after their dogs better. Unfortunately owners who already look after their dogs will also suffer.”

A Glassillan Grove resident said many dog owners had no consideration for people living on the estate.
