A new YMCA club was to be launched in January 1982.
The club, which was starting in Carrick, was for unemployed people in the town.
A survey had been carried out amongst unemployed people, asking them what services they would like to see at the club.
Figures showed that there were 2,483 people out of work in Carrick.
The YMCA hoped to involve as many people as possible, although the new centre was aimed mainly at youth unemployment.
“We will be holding our first afternoon session on January 19 and after that once a week until the end of February. By that time we should know just how much interest there is in the new idea,” said local YMCA general secretary John McMurray.
