Honour for top Carrick footballers

A plaque was presented to the mother of footballing legends Billy and Bobby Irvine by Third Carrick BB in April 1963.

Billy was an old boy of the company and a “prominent” member of the football team.

Billy and Bobby had both been selected to play for Ireland in a match against Wales that month.

Billy went on to be a star striker for Burnley after making his senior debut at the end of the 1962-63 season.

Bobby was a goalkeeper for Stoke City and former Linfield player.

Bobby was transferred to Stoke City in June 1963 reportedly for the sum of £6,000 and made his debut in the opening game of the season, a 2–1 defeat of Spurs.

The presentation was made by BB captain Eddy McNulty.
