A family from Carrickfergus escaped serious injury after being involved in a bus crash in September 1986.

They were travelling on a bus in Scotland when it left the road and went down an embankment.

The family were heading back to Stranraer from Birmingham to board a boat home when the late night crash occurred.

The majority of the passengers on the bus were asleep when it plunged off the road.

They said that there was a lot of panic on the bus in the aftermath of the crash, but calm was soon restored when the emergency services arrived, the TIMES reported.

The family attended hospital for minor bruising, but were discharged shortly afterwards, and were able to travel home soon after.
