Carrick Cricket Club ordered to leave

Carrickfergus Cricket Club was given notice to quit its ground and pavilion adjacent to the cemetery by the borough council in 1961.

As a result. the club decided to relocate to the rugby ground at Woodlawn.

Town clerk Mr. T McVea reported that the club owed £10 rent money for the 1960 season and £15 13s and 6d for grass cutting.

Meanwhile, Carrick mayor Alderman TJ Patterson told members of the borough council that they had not been invited to take part in a recent Telephone Week event.

Other councils had been invited to visit local and central telephone exchanges.

Councillor D Allen said it appeared instead that telephone authorities were “too busy putting up poles where they should not be”.
