The motion was tabled by Knockagh DUP Councillor Marc Collins and seconded by party colleague Carrickfergus Cllr Cheryl Johnston.

The motion also highlighted the council’s recognition and appreciation for the “heroic efforts of NHS, care home and private healthcare staff during the Covid-19 pandemic”.

“We commend the Health and Social Care staff, military personnel and volunteers who are assisting in the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccine and, furthermore, we offer the use of any and all council-owned facilities in order to help facilitate the rollout of the vaccine and encourage all residents of the borough to get the vaccine if offered,”the motion stated.

Anyone aged 50 years or over in Northern Ireland can now book their Covid-19 vaccination appointment.

The programme has been extended to 50 to 59-year-olds, with booking slots available at seven regional vaccination centres.

People have the choice of being contacted by their GPs and receiving a jab, or making their own booking if they haven’t already been invited to receive the vaccine by their GP.

A vaccination centre appointment can be booked online: https://vaccinations.covid-19.hscni.net/booking or by ringing 0300 200 7813. The booking line is open 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride stated: “We need to vaccinate those most at risk and those around them. The more of us who are vaccinated, the more we are all protected.

“Vaccination alone will not provide 100 per cent protection but it will change the balance in our favour against this virus. When your turn comes, don’t delay, get the jab. Protect yourself and others.”
