Forty-six motorists were detected driving above the new 20 mph speed limit within 24 hours after the restriction was imposed.
The new speed limit was introduced outside Model Primary School, at Carrick’s Belfast Road, last Wednesday.
A spokesperson for PSNI Carrickfergus, said: “Fines and penalty points will be issued to those who refuse to drive within the 20mph speed restriction.
“Please help us to keep people safe by adhering to the speed limits.”
The Department for Infrastructure explained: “The part-time speed limit will apply for a distance of just under 500 metres, in the morning when pupils are arriving. It will also operate at two separate times when pupils are leaving the school.”
