Rugby update

Carrick Rugby Club’s under-13s are set to take to the hallowed turf at the home of Ulster Rugby.

The lads have won the chance to play in a half-time exhibition match at Ravenhill on Friday, March 1 when Ulster take on Italian side Treviso.

A post on the club’s website read: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our boys. Not only can we stand up for the Ulstermen, but the Carrick boys too.

“Our under-13s’ head coaches, Richard Higgins and Andy Bell, will be working hard from now until March, getting the boys ready for the big night where they will face their counterparts from Dromore RFC.”

Meanwhile, Saturday’s matches involving the club’s 1st and 2nd XV against Grosvenor and Banbridge respectively, were postponed because of unplayable pitches.

The 4th XV travelled to Donegal Town and came away with a 48-0 victory in the McCambley Cup. In a mid-week match, the 3rd XV lost by 18-17 away to Lisburn.

Fixtures (Saturday, February 16): Ballyclare v Carrick, Banbridge IV v Carrick III, Carrick IV v Malone V.
