Nelson and Jamison take up captains’ roles at Carrick

The Annual General Meetings of both the men’s and ladies’ sections of Carrickfergus Golf Club have now been held.

Des Nelson has taken up the role of Captain for 2015, suceeding Duncan MacLoed, while Dawn Jamison is the Lady Captain for next year.

Ross Jamison has been named as Junior Captain for the forthcoming 12 months.

At the gents’ AGM it was reported that, in spite of major expenditure in building new greens, equipment purchase and updating and improving clubhouse lounge areas, the club was still in a healthy position and is was not necessary to increase annual subscriptions.

The outgoing captain, Duncan Macleod, along with club pro, James Orchin, had won the Regional Section of the Irish PGA Professional / Captain Challenge, and had also represented Ireland in the Grand Final in Turkey.

The club had also won the Holt Shield for the second year running.

The following appointments were made for 2015: Captain, Mr Des Nelson; Vice-captain, Mr Simon Wady; President, Mr Sam McAllister; Vice-president, Mr Billy Robinson; Hon. Secretary, Mr Des Graham; Hon. Treasurer, Mr Geoff Wallace; Trustee, Mr Rab Wilkinson; Hon. Member, Mr George Glasgow; Junior Captain, Mr Ross Jamison.

At the ladies’ AGM, thanks were given to Mrs Lily Robinson for her leadership in what was a successful year.

The following appointments were made for 2015: Lady Captain, Mrs Dawn Jamison, Lady Vice-captain, Mrs Debbie Skilling; Lady Hon. Secretary, Mrs Helen Vizard; Lady Hon. Treasurer, Mrs Hazel Lockhart; Lady Match and Handicap, Mrs Joan Rea.

Meadow misses out

on Full Tour card

Jordanstown’s Stephanie Meadow has lost out on a full LPGA Tour card after a dramatic play-off with Karlin Beck.

Meadow was edged out by Beck who birdied the 11th play-off hole at Daytona Beach, Florida on Monday.

The former Belfast High School pupil, 22, had began the day as one of three contenders, including Casey Grice and Beck, hoping to win a Tour card.

Meadow finished third at June’s US Women’s Open.
