The Carrick rider finished 13th in race one with a non-finish in race two due to technical problems with the BeWiser Ducati, while inside the points.

Glenn, a former Larne Grammar pupil, explained: “It’s been a frustrating weekend as I felt I had the pace to finish higher up but it’s such a difficult circuit to overtake on and I was getting held up in places by other riders.

“I struggled, like Shakey, to get the bike off the line so it was tough out there but there are plenty of positives to take away with us. The team made a few changes to the bike for race two and it was the best it’s been all season so we’ll take that away with us and regroup for the next round.”

Seeley has tough time At Brands

After the highs at the North West 200, Alastair Seeley and the RAF Regular & Reserve BMW team were brought back down to earth at Brands Hatch with a challenging weekend at round three of the MCE British Superbike Championship.

Fifth last time out at Oulton Park, it was always going to be close around the 1.2-mile Brands Indy circuit and so it proved right from the word go. Less than a second covered the top 20 riders for the majority of the weekend and Saturday’s qualifying session saw Seeley finish in 17th.

With overtaking notoriously difficult around the demanding circuit, starting from the sixth row in both races meant the ‘Wee Wizard’ was in for two tough races. Although he managed to climb up into the points, moving up to 14th by lap nine in race one, a lack of rear grip caused by the tyre spinning on the rim ultimately meant he got shuffled back to 17th, thus missing out on a Championship point by two places.

In race two the tyre again spun on the rim meaning it was a long race for the Carrickfergus rider. However, on this occasion, he was part of a four man group battling for 13th place and he eventually took the chequered flag in 14th for two extremely hard fought points.

Alastair explained: “It’s been a tough weekend for sure and we certainly haven’t been able to make much progress.”

Leon Haslam and Shakey Byrne took wins apiece in the superbike races.
