VIDEO SLIDESHOW: Down memory lane at Taylor’s Avenue

The ‘Horseshoe Bridge’, immortalised in a chant by Carrick Rangers’ Amber Army, has undergone a bit of a transformation this week.

The club has erected an impressive permanent photo display of teams from years gone by featuring, naturally, images from Carrick’s finest hour - the 1976 Irish Cup final win.

As the club celebrates it’s 75th anniversary, there’s also a look back at teams from yesteryear, including a photo stretching back to 1941.

Another of the panels, displaying Rangers’ best-ever XI, is sure to stir debate and opinion among the fans.

Carrick’s Media and Publicity Officer, Adam Simpson, said: “This November we will be celebrating Carrick Rangers 75th anniversary, we will be celebrating the landmark in a number of different ways.

“A special gala dinner will be held in the Clarion Hotel in September in which many our former players will be in attendance including the members of Carrick Rangers ‘Greatest XI’ which was recently selected by the club’s supporters.

“Club chairman David Hilditch suggested that we could also mark the anniversary by creating a timeline of events with pictures from famous moments in the club’s history.

“Thanks to financial assistance from the Department for Social Development, we have been able to create a 70m long montage which is now proudly in place adjacent to the horseshoe bridge beside Taylor’s Avenue.

“We asked supporters to suggest which photos they think should be on the display, covering a 75-year period the montage begins with a team photo from 1941 which is the first known photograph of a Carrick Rangers team and ends with a number of images of our youth section; Carrick Rangers Colts and the Carrick Rangers’ Mini Soccer Academy.”
