Valuable point for Islandmagee

Islandmagee claimed a valuable Premier Division point as they drew 2-2 away to sixth-placed Albert Foundry last weekend.

The Islanders had good chances from Stuart Hilditch in the opening five minutes, before going behind as Foundry’s left-winger latched on to a through ball to slot home.

A similar strike, four minutes later put the Belfast men two up. After that Islandmagee came more into the picture, but they missed several good opportunities before half-time.

Early in the second-half the visitors pulled one back when Ryan Kane applied the finish after Hilditch had flicked the ball on.

Gary Workman looked a threat every time he got the ball and it was from his pin-point cross that Phil McCann saw his powerful header parried by the Foundry keeper, but only into the path of Nicholas Baird who followed up, heading into the empty net.

Stephen Donald’s men had chances to win it, but Hilditch and McCann (twice) failed to find the net. Kane rattled the bar with a 30-yard thunderbolt and Island had to settle for a point.
