‘Points make prizes’ for Haveron’s Gers

He didn’t realise but Carrick boss Gary Haveron sounded like one of the old television game show presenters when he spoke about his team’s aim for the next few weeks, stating that “points make prizes”.

“Having fallen behind with the number of matches we have had postponed, the target now is to start catching up on the rest and we certainly cannot afford to lose any more ground on the leaders,” he said.

After Saturday’s dramatic 6-3 win over Cliftonville Olympic secured a place in the last four of the Steel and Sons Cup, Haveron is this week preparing his sqaud for the visit of Dergview.

“We need to be putting points on the board and this is certainly a must-win contest, although it will be far from easy.

“Dergview have picked up some pretty good results and they are sitting just behind us in the table, albeit with a few more games played.

“We will go out with a positive attitude and hopefully that will be reflected in the outcome. We have near enough a full squad to choose from - the bonus being that the experienced Aidy Watson should be back from long-term injury in the next week or so,” he revealed.
