Greenisland is a club with players who have come through their ranks to represent Northern Ireland at all levels. Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, Blackburn Rovers midfielder Corry Evans and Watford’s Craig Cathcart are all products of their youth system.

The supporters’ game is a customary event both at home and away prior to internationals.

The fans’ team is fully recognised and endorsed by the Irish Football Association (IFA) and is closely linked in to the community relations department and the Football For All team within the IFA.

The team promotes equality, respect and diversity within our national game, and encourages other supporters to embrace this ethos.

Over many years the team has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charities, both at home and abroad, and have made hundreds of friends within the European footballing family.

The chosen charity for Saturday’s event will be Macmillan Cancer Support.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 1.30pm and Greenisland FC would like to take this opportunity to invite fans to come along and extend a warm welcome to its Romanian visitors and their supporters. There will be refreshments available throughout the event.

Greenisland FC would also like to thank Janice Cherry of Carrickfergus Community Forum for assistance with the event, along with councillors Noel Jordan and Andrew Wilson.

A big thank-you also goes to Stephen Daye and Jackie Waide from Mid and East Antrim Council for their efforts in helping with the organisation of the event.
