Miguel Chines - Carrick’s top scorer in last year’s treble-winning season - picked up where he left off with a first-half double at Stangmore Park.

Ally Teggart landed the home side’s only goal of the game in the second half.

Back at his old club, Portuguese frontman Chines pounced to net the first goal of the new season after goalkeeper Andy Coleman failed to deal with Conor McCloskey’s initial effort.

Midfielder McCloskey then came close to doubling Carrick’s advantage before Dungannon skipper Ryan Harpur rattled Brian Neeson’s crossbar from a free-kick.

Chines doubled Carrick’s advantage from the penalty spot right on the stroke of half-time after McCloskey was felled by Kris Lowe.

Carrick were enjoying a comfortable second half but there was a nervy finish when Taylor’s Avenue old boy, Teggart, pulled one back.
