“It’s always great to score lots of goals and the supporters delight in seeing the ball bulge into the net. Winning is a good habit and, whatever the game, players grow in confidence every time they leave the pitch after a victory,” acknowledged the Taylor’s Avenue manager.

“But, while the teams played well and looked very comfortable on the ball, we appreciate that they didn’t have the strongest of opposition in front of them.

“It was against Dunmurry Rec on Thursday night and I think the 9-0 scoreline against former Carrick assistant Colin Telford tells its own tale. We passed the ball well, finished nicely and we got to try out a few movements we’d been practicing in training. So it’s not all about the result, really.

“Saturday’s match was at home to a young Crusaders team and I was disappointed that they didn’t send down a few of the more senior players. They had been playing in Europe on Thursday and Stephen Baxter decided not to use those players.”
