Andy Sloan reckons Gary Haveron’s men couldn’t have been handed a sterner test in the last four, but he’s hopeful the Gers can get the job done.

“Ards provided our toughest opposition at Taylor’s Avenue earlier in the season and were unfortunate not to come away with any points on that occasion and I won’t expect anything less this this evening.

“That said, with a solid defence and goalkeeper, teamed with the attacking talent of players such as Ben Roy, I would say we have have a good chance of making the final if everyone plays to their potential.”

Long-time Carrick fan Adrian Hack said: “Having had my Christmas ruined when Ards beat us in the 2008 final, I would love to put that right.

“I know promotion to the Premiership is the primary goal for the club, but the chance of adding silverware to the honours list is a tantalising distraction.”

Adam Simpson added: “2014 has been a massive year for the club, with significant ground improvements as well as the 75th anniversary celebrations providing some major highlights.

“A Steel and Sons Cup success would end the year on an incredible high.

“We would love to honour a new team of heroes ... but I’m sure Ards will have something to say about that!”
