AMATEUR LEAGUE: Kincaid's Barn United prove a point against St Patrick's

After losing at Lisburn Rangers and Comber Rec, Barn United secured their first league point under Tommy Kincaid, coming from behind to take a 2-2 draw at St Patrick's.

However, the Barn boss maintained: “It should have been all three. It’s not easy on a 3G pitch but our boys did well; we had plenty of chances and their keeper pulled off some unbelievable saves. We should have been in front before they scored, but what pleased me was, unlike at Comber the week before, the heads didn’t drop when we went two down. We showed our character in coming back and but for a great save right at the end we could have won.”

While St Pat’s had a player red-carded at 2-0 Kincaid suggested: “Sometimes it can be harder to play against 10 men. They were two goals up and could have parked the bus. But at 11 against 11, we were the better team.

“We’re still not in a good position, we need to pick up as many points as we can, but it’s something to build on and we’ll just keep plugging away!”

Allan McCune, Andy Kane and Matt Bingham all had chances, only for St Pat’s to open the scoring after Barn failed to clear a free-kick.

Another free-kick just after the turnaround doubled St Pat’s lead, though they didn’t help their own cause with that sending-off. Back came Barn when Paul Mathers scrambled in a Mark Tweedie corner, before Kane’s able leveller five minutes from time.

Nortel, meanwhile, slip down to third-bottom in the Premier Division after losing 3-1 at Malachians.

Manager Lee McCartney said: “I’ve no complaints, they deserved to win. They’re very physical on a compact pitch but we just didn’t turn up. We defended badly as a team and didn’t create enough.”

Chris Monteith gave Nortel an eighth-minute lead but Mals scrubbed that one out six minutes later, before going one better on the half hour, despite a suspicion of offside.

Malachians cemented the points with a third after 57 minutes.
