Winners announced after well-attended flower show in Whitehead

Whitehead Garden Society's annual Flower and Vegetable Show has been held as part of town's summer festival programme.

Winners were as follows: Horticultural Cup, M Rodgers; Home Baking Cup, M Brennan. Class 1, L Spearman; Class 2, A Carson; Class 3, S Woods; Class 4, J McKay; Class 5, R Strowger.

The children’s section was well attended with all participants receiving a prize for entering.

Maureen Kells, chairperson of the garden society, extended thanks to all who took part, supported the event and helped with the judging with special mention of Jennie and Rosemary, who stepped in at short notice to judge the home baking.

The society’s first meeting of the new season will be on September 7 at 7.30pm in the community centre with Jim McKay as guest speaker on the theme of vegetables.
