The local branch is hoping to form a pipe and drum band and a military or wind band comprising instruments such as trombones and clarinets.

Bandmaster, Richard Hambleton explained: “The reason for forming the marching band under the badge of the Royal British Legion is because of the non-sectarian nature of the Legion; membership is open to all from the age of 14 with no leaving age.”

The band is encouraging involvement from RBL branches, regimental associations and uniformed organisations such as the Brownies, Cubs, Scouts and the Army Cadet Force.

All members will learn to read music in accordance with RBL regulations.

The meeting will take place on Friday, September 9 at Whitehead Community Centre (7.30-9pm).
