Looking back... Kilroot news to be heard

Alliance Assemblyman Sean Neeson claimed that an announcement was 'imminent' in May 1985 on the £90m conversion of Kilroot Power Station to dual-fired oil and coal generation.

He said he looked forward to the announcement which was set to ring 100 new jobs to the power station and possibly up to 300 jobs in the construction industry. He said: “This is most welcome since I’m told all the jobs at Kilroot would be secured and a further 100 workers would be taken on. In addition, up to 300 men could be employed on the site in the conversion work. These 300 workers may be given employment for about two years. Thus the announcement is eagerly awaited and will be good news for the borough.”
