Slideshow: Appeal for witnesses after Nelson Street fire

A fire in the Nelson Street area of Carrickfergus yesterday may have been started deliberately, PSNI have said.

Response crews from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the blaze in two derelict portable buildings on Tuesday afternoon.

It is believed the premises were used in the past for community and business purposes. The flames were brought under control shortly after 4:30pm.

T/Supt Stephen Reid said: “Police believe this fire was deliberate and are appealing for anyone with information to contact the PSNI non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would like to pass information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
