Work is ready to commence on a new toilet block in Whitehead, it has been confirmed.

A spokesperson for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council said: “The site has been closed off and the initial works are due to begin shortly.”

The seaside village has not had a such a amenity since the old toilet block on Chester Avenue was demolished a number of years ago.

A stand alone automatic toilet was subsequently installed at the seafront.

The new facility will be at Castleview.

Previously, a local resident suggested that the seaside town must have public toilets if it is to be “taken seriously” as a tourist destination.
