Bomb 'may have been in field years'

A bomb found in a Co Fermanagh field could have been there for years, police have said.

The device sparked a security alert in the Drumroosk Road area of Kinawley.

Army bomb experts examined the suspicious object, before they confirmed it was a viable device.

Superintendent Simon Walls said: "We are investigating the likelihood that this device may have been here for some considerable time, possibly many years.

"Although any disruption to local people was minimal we would wish to thank them for their patience and understanding."

There was no immediate information on the size or nature of the device.

A number of items were taken away from the bomb scene for further forensic examination.

Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
